About Guildhall Feoffment Pre-School & Nursery

The Preschool & Nursery is a registered charity and is  ran by a Committee comprising of parent representatives and chaired by Mrs Susan Herriott, a recently retired Head Teacher of Guildhall Feoffment Primary School.  We are a non profit making setting, which means we reinvest into the setting by ensuring we have high quality resources as well as higher staff to child ratios.  This enables us to provide the best care and education for children.  Although we are independent from the Guildhall Feoffment Primary School, we do share links with them as well as with work in partnership with other local schools in the area.   We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum set by the Government 2021.   Click on the ‘Links’ tab for a parent guide to the EYFS. Our intent is to offer a curriculum rich in curiosity and memorable experiences, which means instead of prescribed tasks, your child will be encouraged to explore their own imagination and have the freedom to choose their own path while being supported by our team of professional staff.  We prioritise creating a ‘language rich’ environment through the use of songs, nursery rhymes, stories and providing time for quality interactions between adults and between peers. Trained staff ensure that interactions are positive and progressive, allowing children to flourish and gather words at pace in order to become confident communicators.  We do this by working hard to provide a stimulating environment that provides exciting opportunities, promotes challenge, exploration, adventure and a real love of learning.  This will help children to develop physically, verbally, cognitively and emotionally in an environment which values all cultures, communities and people. Another aim is for our children to be confident and independent, to believe in themselves and interact positively with others.  We understand that play is an integral part of achieving this and this is at the heart of our early years curriculum. We also believe that the correct mix of adult directed and uninterrupted child initiated play ensures the best outcomes for children.  Together with warm and positive relationships between staff and children, consistent routines and strong relationships with parents.  We recognise the crucial role that we have to support early year’s education in providing firm foundations upon which the rest of a child’s education is successfully based.   We have a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) who will work with nursery staff and other outside specialists to put in place appropriate SEN provision.  If we identify that a child may have special educational needs or disability, we will arrange a meeting to discuss what support is needed and put a plan in place to support your child’s development. Once your child has been identified as needing SEN support, staff will observe your child’s play and progress even more closely.
